Pamplona is the capital city of Navarra, official languages are both Spanish and Basque, and such a mix is also its cultural fingerprint, from the sounds to the flavours, from the wine to the cider.

The town is about 400 kilometres North of Madrid and 85 kilometres south of the ocean (San Sebastián). It boasts a regional airport and high speed rail connections with Madrid and Barcelona. An efficent network of buses links the town with Zaragoza, Bilbao, Valencia, Olite and San Sebastián, all towns well worth a visit.

The town is practically monopolised by San Fermín activities during the days of the Fiesta. Public transports, taxis keep on working but they have to be shared with many other people, and this may affect their efficiency and comfort. The town isn’t very big though, and walking around it won’t be hard to find very pleasant quiet spots just meters away from all the hustle and bustle.

Apart from San Fermín, Pamplona offers a couple of spots definitely worth visiting, both in the old centre and in the immediate surroundings. The town is also on the Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James), and is the second stop after Roncesvalles.
