Siena is an extraordinary town, listed with all honours among the UNESCO World Heritage sites because of its medieval beauty and architectonic purity.
It is located about 70 kilometres south of Florence and 220 north of Rome (as a personal tip, drive with no stress on the old Cassia road from Rome to Siena: you’ll find all the best of Italy along the way). It is difficult to find the right words to describe the beauty of the countryside north of Siena, part of the Chianti area, and the same is true for its southern countryside: that fabulous Val d’Orcia, also in the UNESCO list of natural havens of the world.
